Modular Icecube trays!

These modular blocks allow you to make any size icecube tray you wish. Keep them seperate and fill up all the empty nooks and crannies in your freezer, or make one gigantic tray to take up a whole shelf! Its up to you!!!

Submitted for the IceboxChallenge

Features:

-The holders allow for easy ice removal with a exposed bottom push-pad. No struggling to get those icecubes out!

-Icecube models designed for flexible plastic! Use your cool new Ninjaflex or Bendlay plastic to make easy-to-eject icecubes

-Don't have Ninjaflex or Bendlay? Not a problem. Print out some icecube molds, pour in some silicone rubber and make a super durable, water-tight icecube mold.

-All Icecube models have draft! This serves a dual purpose of making it easier to get the icecubes out, AND make it easier to remove from the molds.

-Update (11-28-2014) - Case V2 has small grooves on top and bottom for easier stacking of icecube trays.

Types of molds!

  • 1 Large Cube
    4xSmall Cubes
    4xSmall Hexagons
    1 Large Rod/Cylinder
    1 Half Sphere
    1 Star!!!
    1 Tube-w-Hole (Added 11-23-2014)

Models are freely available in the downloads. If you can't open/import Autodesk Inventor models, just let me know and I will be happy to provide steps, iges, etc. Just let me know what file type you would like to see and I'll add it to the downloads.

Any additional icecube designs are more then welcome! Share your custom icecube tray, and I'll be sure to post a link here!

~IMPORTANT NOTE

As with all 3D printed objects, it is important to know what is food-safe and what is not. For any 3D printed part that is in a food environment and/or comes into contact with food, it is highly recommended you apply a food safe sealant to prevent the spread of any possible toxins in the plastic, and prevent the growth of bacteria on the many visible & non-visible cracks/crevices that are inherent with 3D printing. Usually you can use Silicone sealant or a Polyurethane (make sure its food safe!) spray on coating.

Even if you don't print this 3d part out, please take this advise with you as you look around at other models to print. Safety first!

UPDATE 11-23-2014:
-Added Tube-w-hole. Just the tube, but with a hole down the center for greater surface area.
UPDATE 11-29-2014:
-Added demonstration picture of silicone mold! Turned out perfect! Some notes. Came out pretty easy, but I think I may make a little shake table to get some of the bubbles out. I just knocked it against the table for a few minutes. Bubbles were really just on the top, and not inside, so still works great.
Another note, Will probably make the square in the top bigger, to make it easier to pour the mold around the internal shapes to help prevent bubbles forming.
