Tiny Filament Spool

A simple space-saving alternative for storing filament remnants or samples. Also usabl as a wonderful gift.

Why?

Do you know that too? You've finished your favorite project and all that's left on your filament rolls are pitiful remnants. But there's no room for new ones because the leftovers are taking up too much space on the large rolls.

Well, now you've found the solution. The tiny filament spool- woohoo.

How?

It's very simple. Print two side parts and the center of the spool. Connect the side parts to the spool center with some glue - and you're ready to go.

The filament spool fits on any standard filament dispenser

Filament spool dimensions

Side panel diameter: 120mm
Spool center diamenter : 54mm
Spool width: 16mm

Printer settings

Since it doesn't have to withstand any great mechanical forces, I prefer to use PLA.

But any other material can be used as well.

Pages/roll:
Layer height: 0.2mm
Infill: 15-25%
Support: no

Tolerances may mean that the holes are too small to accommodate the filament. In this case, a hot needle or a screwdriver can be used to widen the holes.

Update:

• add knob for attaching the filament on the spool (testing)
• The hole diameter of the center spool has been widened to make it easier to thread the filament
• add 3mf file with everything on one plate
