Descripción

If you've tried to use the Simple Frame Loom, you've probably found some things frustrating. This loom solves pretty much all of those problems, while still needing essentially no assembly. It's also way easier to warp, way easier to weave on, has a much higher thread count, and is generally way more user friendly.

This design also includes a 2x2 pattern comb (great for diagonal lines, side-to-side chevrons, houndstooth, etc) and a diamond pattern comb (great up-and-down chevrons, diamonds, etc)

Cutting instructions

  1. Green layer: engrave (line mode)
  2. Dark red layer: engrave (fill mode)
  3. Yellow layer: cut (inward kerf offset)
  4. Red layer: cut
  5. Blue layer: cut
  6. Black layer: cut

Usage tips

  • Insert one foot, insert the heddle bar, then insert the second foot.
  • Rotate the heddle bar towards you so that it grabs the yarn close to the pins.
  • Take a bit of sandpaper and gently round off the tops of the comb and needles will make them a lot easier to use and catch your fibers a lot less.
  • The feet intentionally come out easily so you can swap pattern combs -- you can stick the very-short needles into the gaps in the feet clips while in use to hold them steady.

The loom is heavily based on the Rocket Loom by Pop Out Projects. I cannot stress enough how much cool work they did designing that loom. I have made a number of improvements to the design -- Folks at Pop Out, you are more than welcome to incorporate any of the design changes here into your own commercial loom(s):

  1. I ditched the knob on the heddle bar in favor of tabs on both sides. The connection between the heddle bar and the knob is by far the weakest point, frequently snapping off during use. Moreover, being able to twist from both sides simultaneously greatly reduces twisting strain on the bar.
  2. I numbered the thread positions, so that if you're not using the entire width of the frame, you can use the middle of the frame without having to count pegs.
  3. I adjusted the feet a bit to stiffen them and adjust the heddle bar position slightly.
  4. I added a second shuttle (useful if you need multiple colors) and a second needle, and made the needles easier to thread.
  5. I added a handful of very-short needles, which are useful when doing the end stitching if you don't have a lot of yarn left on the weft. Also useful for wedging the feet into place (see tips)

That said, due to how heavily based on a commercial product this is, I have I have licensed this for NON COMMERCIAL use only.
