Although I shouldn't, when I'm in a hurry I sometimes solder multicore cables to header pin strips to make quick and dirty connections - e.g., to a breadboard. They are never satisfactory as they lack strain relief.
These hinged clips seem to help. You can alter most of the dimensions, the number of pins, and whether you are using a ribbon or circular multicore cable.
