Description
This is a star projector, designed as a replacement for a child's toy - as such, it's not incredibly accurate, but it does put a nice star texture on the ceiling. :)
This was originally based on the Celestial Sphere model by evildeece, but with a few changes. For one, I removed any overlapping stars, with the intent of keeping each star separate from its neighbors and distinct. I also removed the extra large stars, as they were just too big for what I was making.
I then changed it from a sphere to a dome, and added a base.
To make this yourself:
You'll want a flat, preferably non-diffused LED source, and preferably a single point of light. I used one of these, as I already had it on hand, and this was very much a "flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants" project: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1758 This is not very bright, but gives a decent light output. Push-through LEDs will work in theory, but the light tends to be very focused upward, and not so much sideways. You could also probably use an RGB LED like a NeoPixel if you'd like, but I don't think diffused LEDs are as effective. Experiment!
I print with Resin, but this should work with FDM printers as well as long as you have a fairly small resolution, and print with supports.
