Description

First and Foremost, this is a modified version of the amazing Coelacan'ts Sigma Protogen which can be found here https://coelacant.com/ProtogenFiles I cannot stress enough how awesome their designs are, make sure to support them!

This is the most ambitious project i've done and its far from finished. The prints are designed but everything else is still pending. I will update on here as best as I can. If you have any questions at all contact me on my telegram preferably @Chuzzlepuff or my twitter also @Chuzzlepuff and I will try to supplement info. Im uploading my backlog of 4 years of prints at the same time right now so information is definitely going to be incomplete.

I made a few versions of the sigma head to accommodate more electronics that I use and even a version for VR. The version without extra buttons is anticipated to be used with my "protoglove", ie, controlled by the glove hence less buttons on the head itself;

Everything including the Vacuform buck is chopped up in a way to fit into an Ender 3 printer. Coela's original design had everything fit into an ender 3 except the buck, but my mods added some bulk to a few parts that required them to be dissected further.

i'm not really gonna type out what everything is here because its easier to just point to it in the video, so check out the vid to see all the changes!

In summary though, there are 3 versions that I made, the first has a deeper chin cavity, spots for extra PCBS in the chin and ears, side pipes to connect wiring between the ears and chin, 2 spots for 12v server fans, attachment brackets for a mesh flash photo cover, voice modulator and microphone slots, buzzer, reinforced ear/back of head mounts, split 2 halves of the head with central ridge for bolting together, added a dynamic hearing aid system with 40mm drivers, along with a passive system to aid in hearing with a port, added channels in the ears to fit a larger bezel and both a ring of LEDs and a flat plane of LEDs for different effects. There is also a spot for a hall boop sensor and extra mounting brackets for PCB's in the nose of the assembly. There is Collar Hole array at the neck for attaching fursuit scruff and sewing it through the holes, as well as ports for aviator plugs for connecting to a full suit of armor or a partial from the back.

The second version is like the first but without the extra button holes in the chin and without the extra electronics cavities under the ears.This version is meant to be used with the Protoglove, thus everything will be controlled with the glove instead of buttons and potentiometers in the head, thus no need for extra holes and component space, thus the simpler design.

The third version is the most complicated and has a VR/AR headset crammed into the face. The headset was designed thinner than a normal headset with slightly less FOV than a normal headset to accommodate the cramped space. It will operate with 2 individual RaspberryPi Zeros, connected to 2 circular 1.4 inch TFT displays via HDMI. The VR headset attaches only to the top forehead arc, thus, the previous 2 face assemblies should work with the VR headset, the only difference is the forehead and the back of the head.
This forehead is split into 2 pieces to accommodate the larger size. it has mounts on the side for 2 Infrared 90degree FOV cameras and a cavity for an SPI ribbon to reach the RaspberryPi's.
The back of the head for the VR version is extended out slightly to make room for the headset. it should fit heads up to around 25 inches diameter, Med to large.
Since the vr headsets position is fixed, a one time forehead adjustment to the user will be done by altering the amount of padding in the back of the helmet. Next, the pupillary distance can be adjusted by moving the lens assemblies laterally along teeth in the headset, moving a few mm at a time. Finally, the focal length can be adjusted by using one of the 6 different length lens tubes that insert into the lens housing. This means you wont have to wear glasses, changing the focal length will correct blurry vision automatically.

So, forehead size is basically a one time thing unless you change the padding, and both pupillary distance and focal length can be changed discretely with a few minutes of removing parts and moving things around.

Most of the programming for this whole thing hasn't been done yet but I've learned from resources on how to program various individual steps. The prints themselves should not be affected by software changes, since there will be a lot of fiddling with code to get things right. Obviously I will post all programming and code updates here.

I'm uploading a backlog of a bunch of my prints right now so am skipping out on some details like specific parts and fastners you need to buy, even though the design mostly has spots for specifically sized things. when I get more time I will update this with specific model numbers and what I used. if you need to know something right away though just contact me on telegram preferably.
